New Hope Feeding Centre
This ministry was founded by Bishop Christopher Mubanga and his wife, Rev. Mary Mubanga (pictured left) of Ndola, Zambia and is carried out by the church they pastor, New Hope Christian Centre. Their goal is to provide food, clothing and housing and ultimately education for the orphaned and poor children, whose numbers are increasing every month.
Like many pastors in the 'third world' of Ndola, Christpher Mubanga makes very little salary from the church. Yet he and his wife Mary feel compelled to help the increasing number of orphans and street children in their poor district of Chifubu. They now feed 150 needy children each week.
"Africa's raging HIV-AIDS epidemic will make 40 million children orphans in the next 10 years by killing one-third to one-half of all adults in several countries. It seems possible millions will become street children, trying to survive by whatever means the can." USA Today, 10/31/2000
This is Sandra, age five. After her mother died of AIDS, her father abandoned her. When the Mubangas found her, she had not eaten for days and was trying to find a rope to hang herself with. The Mubangas have now taken Sandra in to raise alongside their four children. Other families at new Hope Christian Centre also take in homeless children.
